Wai Care activities

Activities that can be supported through the Wai Care programme are outlined below. 

Water quality monitoring and data related activity

  • Visual assessment and habitat assessment
  • Physical tests e.g. pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), water clarity, temperature
  • Chemical tests: nitrogen and phosphorous
  • Biological: Invertebrate identification and classification
  • Entering monitoring data onto the Wai Care website
  • Data interpretation e.g. for reporting, comparative studies

Riparian health – direct action

  • Weeding
  • Planting with native eco-sourced species
  • Litter clean ups
  • Pest control
  • Monitoring – e.g. pests, plant growth
  • Reporting pollution to the Pollution Hotline

Increasing knowledge and learning opportunities

  • School projects – primary, secondary and tertiary studies
  • Fieldtrips
  • Drain painting/stenciling

Advocacy and communications

  • Talks or presentations
